- Make a keepsake Make a free cute “cupcake” refrigerator magnet for mom Saturday at JoAnn Fabric and Craft stores. This is a great activity for kids from 11 a.m. to noon at all JoAnn stores.
- Free Redbox rental Redbox is rewarding moms everywhere with a Facebook fan freebie for a free rental on Sunday, May 13. Visit Redbox’s Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/redbox and click on the app icon for “Mother’s Day.” Once there, you can send a card to anyone who is a mom, or has a mom
- Printable coloring pages that kids can decorate for mom. These are cute pictures that even the smallest kid can color and give to mom
- Personalized “I’ll do this” coupons Maybe Mom needs babysitting, or grocery shopping, or her garden weeded, or her dog walked. Maybe she would like a coupon good for chores done without complaints, or a back rub, or the promise to dump the boyfriend she doesn’t like. Just write it up, put a colored border around it, and wrap it in a box. She’ll like it. Really. - Free Mother’s Day fest at the Orange County Museum of Art On Sunday, the OC Museum of Art in Newport Beach is having a special Mother’s Day event. Admission and parking are both free. There will be live entertainment, too. Even if you don’t like art museums, this might be a nice special thing to do with your mom or wife and kids.
- Free meal for Mom Free Mother’s Day meal at Mama’s on 39 in Huntington Beach. Mom can get a free meal at Mama’s. I suggest making reservations.
- Free Knott’s Berry Farm ticket If you bring Mom to Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park on Mother’s Day and feed her brunch at Mrs. Knotts Chicken Dinner Restaurant, you can get free admission to the theme park that day. And other members of the party can get in for $25, if they also enjoy the brunch. The Knott’s all you can eat Mother’s Day champagne buffet brunch is $29.95 for adults, $22.95 for seniors, $16.95 for kids.
- Write a Mother’s Day poem I am a mom, and I can absolutely guarantee that this gift will be carefully saved as a treasured memory, while other presents are used up and discarded. It doesn’t have to be a good poem, it only has to be from the heart. And, yes, you have to say something nice, even if the last time you saw your mom, she threw you out of the trailer park while she was drunk. Here are some ideas to get you started. - Give Mom a spa day at home Turn a room into your home into a mini-day spa. Put on some soothing music. Take a white sheet and cover up the couch, put her there in a bathrobe. Mix oatmeal and honey for a cleansing facial mask, with cucumbers or tea bags on her eyes. If any of your neighbors has a foot bath, maybe they’ll lend it to you, otherwise just take a deep pan and soak her feet in hot water. Then, give her a manicure and pedicure, brush her hair and give her a massage if she’ll let you.
- Make Mom a slide show, starring her There are some easy programs these days where you can upload your photos and make a digital slideshow with Mom as the star of the show!
